Elliot Goodger Memorial Park concept proposal

ree

This is what a modern community sporting facility looks like šŸšŸ‰

We are so lucky in Gawler to have thousands of families, young people and community members involved with dozens of different sporting clubs. They provide a sense of belonging, promote health and wellbeing, and allow friendships to flourish. They are so much more than just a sporting team.

Our football, netball and cricket clubs are no exception. Through the passionate work of our local sporting clubs, council staff, Federal and State stakeholders, I am very excited to share this artist’s impression of the new and renewed Elliot Goodger Memorial Park, at Willaston.

At this week’s council meeting, I spoke about the justification behind this development proposal. Our sporting facilities must be modern, compliant, and accessible community & sporting precincts.

They must have an increased capacity for our growing community, and in a modern world - particularly for women’s sport - these are the facilities that are required.

The days of shared showers in asbestos-filled brick changerooms are long behind us.

If we want our next generation to grow up as active and healthy citizens, these are the facilities that are required to encourage that.

There is still plenty of work to do to get this plan put into action, and we will continue to work alongside our other sporting clubs, to ensure that their facilities are also brought up to standards.

But this is an important first step, and I share the excitement that I hope members of the Willaston Clubs have for an exciting development!
