Free period products here to stay

Free period products available in the Gawler Civic Centre are here to stay for the foreseeable future.

Following a successful trial over the past 12 months thanks to a grant through the ‘Period Justice’ program from the Commissioner for Children and Young People, the Town of Gawler have confirmed the products will remain available in the female and accessible toilets within the Gawler Civic Centre.

The trial was in conjunction with TABOO Period Products, a social enterprise that was founded in Adelaide selling sustainable pads and tampons, while also educating the public on challenges in the space, such as period poverty.

Participants who used the products during the trial were encouraged to provide feedback via a QR code.

The cost of the products will now be covered as an ongoing operational cost of the Civic Centre.

Quotes from feedback provided by participants (anonymous) in the trial:

I haven't needed to yet, but I'm so very glad they're there.

Saw them there last week and thought it was a great idea.

Such a brilliant programme & worthy of the grant !

Quotes attributed to Ethan White:

I am really excited that we will be continuing this service into the future.

It is such as simple way we, as a council, can provide a service to our community that is a fundamental human right, while also helping start the conversation around period justice within our community.

I hope that, down the track, we can expand this to more sites beyond the Gawler Civic Centre.

I would really encourage other local businesses and organisations to get involved with this movement.

It helps remove the stigma around periods, getting both women and men to talk about it, while sending a clear message that you support this movement.
