Karen Redman has resigned as Mayor of the Town of Gawler. Karen has led the town for 10
years and will leave behind an important legacy. Karen was the first woman elected to the
role, oversaw significant development and growth within the town, the renewal of the Gawler
Civic Centre, and guided the community through significant challenges such as the Pinery
bushfires, and Covid-19 pandemic.
I want to thank Karen for her service to our community, from her time as a councillor to the
past decade as mayor, and wish her all the very best for the next chapter in her life.
As Karen makes this decision for personal reasons, I would like to encourage the community
to respect her wishes for privacy.
Deputy Mayor Nathan Shanks will continue in his role as Acting Mayor, and I will continue
working with him, fellow elected members and council staff, in the best interests of the
community.
A by-election for the community to elect a new mayor for the remainder of the council term
will take place in the coming months, with more information to come.
