Why I'm voting for Nathan Shanks as Mayor

Openly endorsing a candidate is not something I do lightly, but as more people have reached out asking how I will be voting, I felt this was the right thing to do.

I have seen how much work Nathan puts in behind the scenes. Nathan is the right person for the job. He listens and genuinely cares about the Gawler community.

With only 14 months until the end of the council term, change now would be counter-productive. Nathan has made a positive impact in his time as Acting Mayor, and we need to let him finish what’s he started.

Building and maintaining relationships is critical in delivering ongoing improvements to our community. In his time on Council, Nathan has strengthened Gawler’s relationships with state and federal governments, along with key stakeholders within and outside of our community.

These relationships are how we’re going to tackle big challenges facing Gawler:

  • Upgrading infrastructure as our region grows – like carparking and our main street

  • Improving our community facilities, bringing us up to scratch with what we see in our neighbouring councils

  • Improving health, education and transport to ensure we grow in a sustainable way

As a father of a young family, Nathan understands how important it is to lead and support elected members in making decisions that positively affect future generations, ensuring our community thrives.

As a young person on council, representing the views of young people in our community, I feel supported and heard by Nathan. He’s respectful, genuinely listens, and is solutions- oriented.

I want to acknowledge all three candidates who’ve nominated to be our next Mayor. It’s not an easy thing to do and their passion and genuine commitment to our community is to be admired.

And whoever our next mayor is, I will continue working to deliver positive outcomes for all members of our community.

Ballots for the by-election will arrive in your letterbox this week. Please make sure you vote, sign your ballot, and return them via the post by 22 September.
